Because of this, several rebellions and uprisings ere made in Elizabeths name, although she herself probably had little or no knoledge of them. Hoever, Mary sensed the danger from her younger sister, and imprisoned her in the Toer.The story of Elizabeths entry into the Toer is an interesting one. She as deathly pun intended afraid of the Toer, probably thinking of her mothers fate in that place, and hen she as told she ould be entering through Traitors Gate, she refused to move. She had been secreted to the Toer in the dark so as not to raise the sympathy of supporters. Regardless of the reason, Elizabeth never married, but managed to successfully play her suitors off of one another for about 25 years, gaining alliances and ealth from gifts on the possibility of marriage. The one serious contender for her hand as the Duke of Alenon of France, but negotiations failed eventually.GlorianaThe later years of Elizabeths reign are sometimes referred to as a Golden Age. During this time, England and Elizabeth faced several major trials. First, Elizabeth had to deal ith the groing threat of Mary Queen of Scots, ho had a strong and legitimate claim to the throne of England. hen Mary fled her country in the 1560s, she as taken into house arrest in England, here she had expected the protection of her cousin Elizabeth. Elizabeth hoever kne Mary as a threat. Eventually, a plot serious enough arose in Marys name, and Elizabeth sign her death arrant. Mary as executed in 1587, on February 8th, at Fortheringhay.Also, the greatest military threat some a year later, hen the Armada from Spain sailed toard the tiny island nation. England prevailed and as on its ay toards becoming the supreme naval poer that it as in the 1600 and 1700s.This as also near the time that Robert Dudley died.
